Counselling helps to maintain good mental health

Counselling provides a confidential safe space for you to focus on your Self-Development. It allows you to improve your own Wellbeing.

From time to time we all experience difficult periods in our lives where we might feel overwhelmed. You may be affected by anxiety, loss, stress or low mood and could benefit from some extra emotional support.

It is common to spend your time looking after others and neglecting yourself.

Talking through your problems with a counsellor can help you to work through uncomfortable feelings and give you a clearer understanding of what is going on for you, assisting you to let go of unresolved issues and move forward in your life.

How does Counselling work?

Counselling is a talking therapy. A client and a counsellor normally meet for a counselling session once a week at the same time and place to talk about any issues that the client may be struggling with. Over time the client and counsellor form a trusting therapeutic relationship where the client feels safe and is able to explore what is going on for them.

Anything that is discussed during the session is strictly confidential between the client and counsellor. Confidentiality would only be broken for safety reasons if the counsellor felt that there was a significant risk of harm to either the client or to another person. The counsellor would try to inform the client before they broke confidentiality and would only do this in order to keep the client or another person safe.

There is something quite special about counselling, it is not like other relationships that you may have experienced. Talking to another person who is not in your family or circle of friends, who will not judge you, who is there to listen to you and who will try to empathise with what is going on for you, can really help to move you forward when you are feeling emotionally stuck.

If you feel that you might like to start counselling with me we can arrange an initial telephone call where you can see if I might be the right counsellor for you. This telephone call is almost like a taster, you don’t have to commit to any further sessions, just see what it feels like talking to me.

If it does feel like counselling might be beneficial to you and you decide that you would like to go ahead with further counselling we can book in for our first session and start working together.
